To anyone boo-hooing about cutting down all the precious trees, a few thoughts:
This is obviously not a "virgin" forest. This is a tree farm which will reach harvest age in 20-30 years. Arborists and the logging industry are smart. They want to have more trees to cut down and make money off next year, so they plant new trees (often 2-3 for every 1 they harvest).
Trees are this planets most easily renewable resource. Over forestation is a problem in Central America and a few other places, but not in the US. A coast to coast flight will reveal that there are PLENTY of trees out there!
Responsible forestry means cutting fire lines and cleaning out over-grown forests to prevent wild fires (that have been running rampant over the last 10 years in the States because of overly restrictive forestation laws. Ironic, because more trees were destroyed and more CO2 emitted by the fires than if they had been harvested...)

Electric cars are good from an emissions standpoint but are a danger to pedestrians because of how quiet they are. (I can't tell you how many times I've walked in front of a Prius in a parking lot!)
Now we have a silent killer that is a danger to everyone; rider, pedestrians and cars alike. If loud pipes save lives, then an electric bike is sure to kill.
Worst best idea ever.

#10 not to argue but to continue the discussion...
yes, I did notice they were coming back down the road. (I am the OP of the video too.) I've actually been to the PPHIC 7 times since 1994. I also used to race hare scrambles and enduro's and grew up in a motorcycling family. My Dad, uncles, friends and I all have the scars, compressed vertebrae and numerous broken bones that are common to the community of AMA racers. (A good friend of my cousin is Nick Wey too; not that it's relevant, but I'm definitely familiar with riding/racing)
I also know from watching videos of races from friends Go Pro's that G-P's have a very wide field of view and we see things differently in G-P footage than in real life. I give Jeff Grace a little more credit.

#10, perhaps we should just argue our insufficient knowledge of the subject over a pint or two... You might be correct about the rotational mass. I just don't think that's the only issue here.

15. pauldmixer commented 10 years ago on video Honda From Heaven
#5 sux2bu indeed. And sux2barrogant. He probably didn't see it right away. Helmets don't offer the best peripheral vision and he was doing about 60-70mph when the bike fell into the road. I'm surprised he was able to slow down as much as he did!
30
16. pauldmixer commented 10 years ago on video Longest Jump Story
#7 I think this is part of the issue, but the rotational mass of the wheels is pretty insignificant compared to the mass of the entire vehicle. (compared to a snomobile or motorcycle where the their ratios are much closer) It appears as if the car starts to pitch forward immediately after leaving the ramp which would point to the suspension unloading prematurely and/or the ramp "trampolining" from deflection, or both. You can see the car pitching forward too much in the 80M attempt as well.

#8, this looks like a 4rd gen maxima, in which you could literally bolt-in the VQ35DE 3.5L motor found in the 350Z and G35. This power plant was good for nearly 300hp stock and an easy 400hp without boost or spray. That being said, the 996 Porsche Turbo had nearly 450 hp stock and was good for 0-60 in under 4 seconds. The Porsche SHOULD have won. Obviously both a bad Porsche driver AND a fast non-stock Nissan.

#1 It takes a $100,000 modern instrument to rival their tone and acoustic power, which is saying a lot for something that is over 300 years old. And the fact that a 300 year old instrument has held up this well says a lot for them too.
$45M... perhaps not. But "bit of wood" certainly not.

#4, yeah, way too forward, but a .5 dB change would be almost imperceptible. More like 2-3dB less. But I think this has more to do with how the drums were compressed and processed compared to the orchestra. The drums are obviously close mic'd and there is absolutely no space to the drums, whereas the orchestra is quite reverberant. Well played, just not well mixed.

What most union members fail to realize is the "fairness" that their Stu's claim to promote only means that you get paid only what the least capable person on your "team" is worth. Lowest common denominator. How is that fair?
Fairness is earning a wage that you are worth, regardless of age, sex, color of skin, or whatever.
Generally speaking, my union friends had an attitude of banding together, "screwing the man" and getting even; Makes sense: screw the guy that gave you a job... So, maybe those cool-aid drinking Sheeple's deserve to be reduced to the lowest common denominator...

Funny. I saw the thumbnail of the video and when I watched the paper spitting out I thought "yep, he's a member of a union..." This is pure rubbish; a complete 180 degree distortion of the truth.
I have worked for 3 different unions in 2 trades. It is my experience, both first and second hand, that unions hold you back because excelling is looked down upon because you make others look bad, product costs are driven up (due to union politicians skimming off the top and hiring about 20-30% more labor than is required), and in general will absolutely suck the life out of you and the business you work for.
And FWIW, I make 2-3 times now what my union friends make doing the same thing. Why? Because excelling gets me promoted, I can negotiate my own contracts and wages, and I'm free to be the best I can be without being reduced to the lowest common denominator.
Unions had their place in the States 100-60 years ago, and may still have a place in 2nd and 3rd world countries. But they are long overdue to take a hike in the US.

60. pauldmixer commented 13 years ago on video Ferrari vs Dodge Viper - Who Wins?
#7: Horsepower is a made up number based on the relationship of tq and rpm. Torque is what actually accelerates you forward. Furthermore, the 355 is one of the best track cars ever made; which is why Ferrari made the Challenge edition out of it and not the dozen other cars in it's line. It's linear power delivery and weight distribution makes it very balanced and predictable (hence it staying on the road). Throw curves and elevation changes in the mix and the 355 wins 10 out of 10 races against the brute Viper.
