Today it seems we like to gloss over the fact that many people do well because of their hard work and good choices in life, but in PC culture, you can't talk about people's bad choices.

Societies that do well are those that have rules and laws that for the most part give people the feeling that overall things are fair. It'll never be 100%, but generally if folks believe things are fair, they're good with it. Yes, the 3 series is a great BMW especially if you want performance. A little peaky, the gas versions require you to stay in the higher RPM range to keep momentum. That's why the diesel version would be interesting (I prefer V8's with the low end torque). The M3's that had a naturally aspirated V8 were stunning in looks and sound.


For overall adulthood use, I like the 5 series. A good compromise between the performance/reliable 3 and status oriented and overly complicated 7 with disastrous reliability and repair costs.

I have to agree with Fox that it's not an investment, it's a need and desire given the massive flexibility. The great thing about a personal car is when you don't need it, it's sitting in the driveway turned off, unlike a bus with 2 people on board or half empty trains. They're still buzzing around using resources.

The ridehail would appear to be a good idea, just not sure I can wrap my brain around how it might work. It seems like if a lot of people ditched their cars and hailed other cars, the traffic wouldn't get any better considering when I drive to work and park, the roads are free from my car. You did mention you'd like to see the roads, freeways and parking lots filled with homes but think ride hailing will solve the problem, yet where would they drive or park (if I understood you correctly)?

And you'd need a lot of ride hailing cars especially if you want to serve your customer within 2 minutes during rush hours. You'll need those bastard parking lots or parking structures and roads to take people to their destinations. It might work, I just can't visualize it and the math doesn't seem to work from a conceptual standpoint.

In 1990 they were half of the US output, by the early 2000's they overtook us and now have doubled our output. Climate change aside, aren't Gen III or even IV nuclear power plants the only REAL way to subvert the use of fossil fuels?

It seems like the others have their own bad trade-offs. I thought most conservationists don't like the invasion on land or the sea.

#5 I'm a cyclist generally riding 3500 - 4k miles per year. In this case I agree with you 100% that there was a lot of unnecessary drama. However, often cars overtake a cyclist and then turn into them. It's called the Right Hook and is one of the most dangerous situations for cyclists. This just happened to me last year. Luckily I had a hunch what he was going to do and was kind of prepared for it but it was still quite an event. Cyclists (especially the annoying spandex ones) are much faster than you think and if you overtake one, please check to make sure they haven't caught up with you. We agree cyclists also need to take responsibility for their safety and not ride in a the driver's blindspot. It's best to enter an intersection behind the vehicle until it's clear they are proceeding straight. Thank you.

It would also act as a lubricant. At home, if you're drilling something like steel, if you use a little bit of oil or cutting fluid during the process the drilling will go easier and your drill bit will stay sharper longer.

The coolant is water and a prescribed amount of corrosion inhibitor protecting the material (if applicable) and the machinery from rust. If you just used straight water, the machinery would rust very quickly and obviously the machinery would be very expensive to replace.

We've seen numerous cases of child (or young women), sexual abuse at large institutions like the church (Penn State, olympics, USC etc etc.). There is/was a large lawsuit locally against LAUSD (Los Angeles Unified School District) for child sex abuse. A clutch in a normal car is the reverse of a disc brake and caliper. The engine is turning and the clutch clamps down onto the spinning flywheel of the engine and transfers that to the drivetrain (transmission/driveshaft/axles/wheels) into forward motion.

Just like on a brake system, the clamping has to be gradual. With 10,000 horsepower that clamping has to be even moreso controlled so as not to break the drivetrain or break traction between the tires and the track. These special clutches with various discs and springs make that gradual clamping occur. There's lot's more details on how that happens, but different spring rates make that faster or slower and each time they put a clutch together then can customize how that happens. Like he said, full clamping finally happens about mid-track. Between start and midtrack, there's friction in the clutch unit until full-lockup, just like your brakes until final stop.

For these cars the clutches are rebuilt on every run and lots of things go into deciding how you're going to make that clamping occur such as track conditions, traction, heat, humidity, engine tune etc, etc. A lot is science, but a lot is the gut feel of the clutch builder and often the drivers give credit to clutch builder for their wins because he's basically like a voodoo doctor, guessing to some degree what he needs to do to transfer all that power while maintaining traction and keeping the parts all together for the win! Cool stuff.

Most of these people are vagrants by choice, not "homeless". A small percentage need help (I don't mind paying some of my taxes for those in need), most need to be moved along. Locally there was a HUGE tent city, the county finally acted to move them along, less than 20% took the offered help. The problem is simple when there's a handful, move along. Gun control to any meaningful extent won't happen, ever, so we have to deal with the reality. The reality is, in America, guns are here and likely will be forever. Like others have said, we have more guns than we do people. Our country was founded on different principles and ideology than most others, and I think that's a good thing. Our forefathers in general were brilliant with the system they set up.

The problem is both sides see things differently, and both sides are correct. I'm generalizing here, but basically the Left thinks guns are dangerous and they're right. The Right sees guns as necessary for their safety or for sport, and they're right. So now what? Nothing. Ever. Both sides will vote based on their fears. Some are founded and some are not, but that doesn't matter. Fear beats reason every time.

So, to #8's point, you have to focus on the people. How many times do we have to go down this road where these pukes were on our radar, and NOTHING was done by the F-sticks that are in charge of this stuff.? The FBI, the local police, everybody. Anybody who did nothing is ever named or shamed for being lazy or incompetent. They just go along doing the same thing and eventually get to live off me in their retirement. F that. From the Catholic Church and Penn State buggering children, to the politicians and celebrities abusing women (and men as well as children), one common theme across the board is, many people knew inside and outside the organization but did nothing about it. So I've grown tired of people like Oprah standing up and pontificating about how we need to treat people. What did Oprah do to help the women being abused by Weinstein years ago? And don't tell me she didn't know. EVERYONE knew and they joked about it for decades (including women which is really interesting to me). Most of us treat people well, I don't need shallow self-righteous people finger wagging and telling me how to act towards others especially during a stupid self-congratulatory award ceremony that has nothing to do with it AND from an organization, that as a whole, did nothing about it.

Once this blows over, and it will blow over, men will continue to do what they've always done. Maybe a little different, maybe not out in the open, but they will continue to do it. Men that go into certain fields of fame or fortune do so to "get chicks". The prize, if you will, is what that lifestyle brings with it . The ability to get hot looking women. You don't often see an ugly wealthy woman with a young man, but you see lots of old or ugly wealthy men with young hot women. It's life.
