Being charged by a gorilla can be a very serious thing, so let us not digress any further.
The good news is that gorillas are normally very shy and amiable, the bad news is that if you wander into their territory, the male leader will charge at you, beating his chest and looking mighty mean as the females and children run in the other direction.
Gorillas may not have any natural enemies, but they’re not real keen on trespassers.
So what do you do if a gorilla comes running at you, beating his chest and growling?
You must, at all costs, not do the rational thing and run.
==>
Your body language communicates that you are not aggressing the animal.
Intruders who run away are often chased down and killed. Instead, screw up your courage, stand up straight, and hold your ground.
Those who do are almost never harmed.

Just like humans gorillas are very aggressive towards gorillas outside their territory. I believe they even cannibalize fallen "enemy" gorillas.
Anyways the gorilla is just as scared of you as you're of it. The first one that flinches is the one that show their weakness. You'd need balls of steel. And even if you do, if you encounter a very aggressive gorilla in their younger years they would probably attack you regardless of what you do. Pretty much the same applies to bears. Tho, I wouldn't recommend holding a bear cub for obvious reasons.

running is always a bad idea for humans, anything that can kill you can out-run you!
