#1 & #2 You need to learn a little something about Jimmy Kimmel and his relationships with his co-workers. He is one of the nicest human beings in showbiz. So #4 is right. They do pranks and pointless stuff like this ALL THE TIME and often he himself is the victim.
But I agree, this is not their finest piece of work.
