Errr... What's the point of that rifle? What's it good for?
Shooting static targets?
Or will it guide moving targets as well by locking on them? Doubt it.

I doubt it's for static objects only, just like a jet's system can track a moving object - as long as it's within the "scope's" borders. Plus the system doesn't "see" what you see with the scope zoomed all the way in I guess.

- If it's for moving objects as well, it would revolutionalize warfare, which is a bit scary, because the enemies could have this technology, too, in the future.
- Even if it is for static objects, it has its uses in combat.. after all you are a sniper far away, you are meant to be undetected before your shot. Most people don't run around in their bases.
- Using the tracking system is not mandatory, one can still use the gun as a normal sniper rifle, so it can be simply a useful addition in those cases.

I don't see a reason for it NOT to be used in the future.

Unfortunately there is no reason not to make more and more advanced weapons, but this so called civilization seems barbaric to me enforcing peace by guns. :(
It's an interesting machine anyway.

From his explanation it can't be used more effectively on moving targets than a normal sniper rifle, because it can't fix the projectiles trajectory after it's been shot.
Nonetheless, this is amazing technology that can make hitting static or slow moving targets very easy.
Can I have a go? 8-)

He says "first shot", which means it's only intended to be useful for sniping. It may be able to handle movement, but not much. He also mentioned a "firing solution", which suggests that the scope has a range finder, and maybe even some kind of wind measurement, which it uses to calculate the trajectory. In other words, it does what a sniper and spotter together can do only with a lot of training and experience.

I can imagine a rich guy using it to hunt, but it seems clearly intended to make any soldier an instant sniper.

Sandia National Labs has already created a laser-guided .50 cal. bullet that can change direction after it has left the barrel. Combined with this type of firing system it will make one helluva accurate rifle.
