if the guy in the first car desides to step on the breaks, the cop would be in fault.......... bumpersticking ( what they call that in my country after translation)isn't allowed. The drivers crashing in the back of the driver in front of him/her is ALWAYS at fault. This, because of the distance between car1 and car2.

That's a New Jersey state trooper. I've seen them do that a couple times myself.

its called tailgating here, and illegal as hell. Rule of thumb is 1 car length for every 10 miles per hour. I love how cops seem to think they're above the law.

Total abuse of power.

Don't get me wrong, makes for a funny ass video, and the slow poke in the fast lane deserved it, but still, what a prick cop. Next time simply go around like the rest of us, and stay back at a safe distance Officer Lawbreaker. :\ Or get behind someone like me once, and buy them a new car as they slam on their breaks.

I had a cop do the exact opposite to me. He didn't like the fact I was going to pass him and he merged into my lane and broke in front of me. I gave him an ear-full at the next town after I tailgated him for 5 miles. He was out of his jurisdiction. Punk cops.

I'd have enjoyed this more without the voices of the people filming.

For all the people complaining about tailgating by the cops:

Yes it is illegal BUT if you read the traffic code you can find a paragraph that clearly states you are NOT allowed to slam on the brakes for no reason.

In a normal situation it's hard to prove it was for no reason since the other driver can say a dog jumped in front of the car, but the police car has a video camera... so if he did brake hard for no reason he would be at fault not the cops, whether you like it or not.

The left lanes are meant to be the passing lanes. Drivers are not supposed to be traveling in those lanes other than passing another vehicle. After the vehicle has been passed then the driver has to return back to the traveling lanes. Passing cars on the right is considered dangerous and is illegal.
One of the reasons why the highways up here can never look like the German Autobahns is that there are so many foreigners who never drove a car in their own country and wouldn't have a clue why it's important to move over. And it seems that nobody is really enforcing this simple rule other than the cop in the above video.
Good work for the cop who should've pulled the car over and cite him.

Good Guy Cop: Trolls you into proper lane, instead of beating the shit out of you.

I don't know about your state but passing on the right is illegal, however, it's become necessary due to the increasing number of assholes driving slow in the left lanes.

right #14, but that camera cant see inside a car either. It could have been a lit cig dropping, or any other reason. Fact is, the cop was following too closely, and not only endangering himself, but other drivers on the road. In the case of an accident, the rear car is charged the most more often than not. Simple fact is, if he was at the legal "safe" distance, no accident would occur even if the driver in front slammed his breaks, reason or not.

The break slamming would be the second hazardous move, for whatever reason. Following too close, for prolonged distance, is just askin for trouble and was already going on. Besides that, as in this video, where the driver simply pulled over, the cop was still guilty of breaking the law, and yet suffered no consequences, ie: thinks hes above the law, and that bs is too commonplace and overlooked.

Mate of mine was being tailgated on purpose by a motorcycle cop, hit the brakes and sent the cop over the car. Got booked for braking for no reason, didn't pay the fine, went to court and claimed a dog ran across the road. It's illegal to hit an animal if you can at all miss it. Then put the cop on the stand and asked why he was so close. Cop couldn't say "Because I was trying to harass you into breaking the law". No case to answer and the local magistrate caned the cop for being a fool.
This cop showed much more sense.

To those that think the officer is abusing his power. Impeding traffic is illegal and the officer would have been justified in ticketing the driver if the driver was going slower than the posted minimum speed limit. There are also many states that have signage stating to "Keep Right Except to Pass". This would also allow the officer the ability to ticket the driver as he was not passing anyone. I do agree that the officer was wrong in tailgating the driver.

What I personally hate are the drivers that are moving slow and you start to pass them on either side and they speed up to prevent you from passing them. Hell, I had my cruse control on and passed a guy, leaving plenty of space in front of him, he sped up and passed me then slowed back down. Never changing speed I passed him again, and he did the same thing. This happened a third time and I said screw you jerk, and cranked up the speed and got out of there before he caused an accident.
