looks like a picmicro chip to me. I don't know much about elektronics but i can create that. If you are dutch you can learn this too. Check this: www.picbasic.nl
Its a tutorial site that learns you about picmicro chips. A lot of fun. But you need to be carefull with electricity aight?

it's not very hard to make something like this... it probably takes about 40 lines of code.. plus the rewiring of some LED's and buttons.

I like the idea tough.. how he used the old parts.

#4 I think the best place to start.. if you want to learn to do this.. is not using a pic. but using an arduino, they're relatively cheap and there are lots of libraries to use.
I have the Arduino UNO (http://arduino.cc/en/Main/ArduinoBoardUno ), and I've learned a lot from it, I currently use it as a programmer for other chips

#5 Ardunio is more expensive! But just a little. And easier to learn. You can buy a pic for around 1,5 euros and bigger ones for max 15 euro i guess. Plus you need to make a 7805 power supply for it wich can be made for around 10 euros.

Anyways it doesnt matter. They are both fun. Great to see that more non electronics people can build stuff with it.
