Next time some one says something about technology beeing bad, show them this video and tell them: your place is to hold the rope makers top for 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, hoping for 3 miles a day!
actualy, not even... this also was new technology when they were forced to do everything by hand and strenght!

1760 yards in a mile, 20 yards of rope a piece, 880 ropes
720 minutes for 880 ropes, thus less than a minute per rope.
I guess they found ways pulling all 3 to 4 strings to the other end at once and not running back and forth all the time ("just" twice a minute) still this sounds like incredibly hard work.
