I think the 'Purple' is just an illusion from the particular camera, picking up infra-red heat or similar?
I remember on a lot of my old phones, the end of a lit cigarette would show with the same purple tint.
Man needs to get himself a GoPro!!
(those two messages where meant to be the other way around, but I messed up somehow!!)

The brake discs are tempered metal for extra hardness. If you heat any tempered material to glow like that you will definately loose most of its qualities. That's in general.
Although we can see in the video that some particles that hit the discs burst into flames immediately so it's not impossible that it actually glows. The brake discs they use in high-end racing are definately not cheap and are made to stand the heat.
Don't they change the engine after every race anyway?

#6 Because this is "Stock Car Racing" which dictates that some features of a "stock" car are required to be kept. Plus it adds to the excitement of the pit stops.
This is the only type of car racing where the drivers race so close and maintain speeds of over 180 mph for 500 to 600 miles in one race.
Git-r-done! Now hold my beer and watch this........
