Stuck in an elevator for 41 hours
A crazy story: Nicholas White took a smoke break and got stuck in the elevator. Only after 41 hours he was rescued. This video shows a timelapse of surveillance cameras footage.

While I was just a boy, I remember my mom going to Norway, Oslo University to study for her degree.
When she came back she later told us all kinds of storys about the culture and surrounding, and there was this one - about a woman janitor, who got stuck in some high school lift for a week or so, and she only managed to survive by drinking dirty water from a bucket, with witch she previously happened to be cleaning floor.
A WEEK.

I never liked elevators, but I never imagined something like this happening.

White never went back to work at the magazine. Caught up in media attention (which he shunned but thrilled to), prodded by friends, and perhaps provoked by overly solicitous overtures from McGraw-Hill, White fell under the sway of renown and grievance, and then that of the legal establishment. He got a lawyer, and came to believe that returning to work might signal a degree of mental fitness detrimental to litigation. Instead, he spent eight weeks in Anguilla. Eventually, Business Week had to let him go. The lawsuit he filed, for twenty-five million dollars, against the building's management and the elevator-maintenance company, took four years. They settled for an amount that White is not allowed to disclose, but he will not contest that it was a low number, hardly six figures. He never learned why the elevator stopped; there was talk of a power dip, but nothing definite. Meanwhile, White no longer had his job, which he'd held for fifteen years, and lost all contact with his former colleagues. He lost his apartment, spent all his money, and searched, mostly in vain, for paying work. He is currently unemployed.

The article about this is really long but well worth reading; the writer gets amount out of 'guy gets stuck in lift. gets released.'
Any Houdinis out there? What about breaking the mirror, or one of the lights, then using the fragments to unscrew the hand-rail. Then, holding his shirt that he's pissed on against the wall until the bricks - which surely on an interior wall of a building of that size would be breeze blocks or equivalent - he could dampen them until he was able to chip and smash his way out, or at least make a hole that he could draw attention through. W.W.(Andy Dufresne)D?

quote spook24:
"and the co-workers didnt even care that he was gone. some 'friends' they came out to be."
You're a fucking idiot, and apparently a communist. If you care about your friends, then you're a communist. That's America
P.S. You know im just kidding about the fucking idiot thing.

He actually opens the door and pees down the elevator shaft hoping that someone will wonder why the elevator is leaking. He eventually gets fired from the job because his sues for 25 million dollars. They settle for less than six figures.

There's no need for that, movies told me that there's always some sort of Deus Ex Machina in Amaerica for all situation.

Being stuck in the lift for 41 hours while undoubtedly a harrowing experience did not ruin his life, i think that the jackass lawyer telling him he was gonna get $25 million and after 4 years getting nothing remotely like, it was the real kick in the ball bag that did.

Unfortunately for him he suffered a traumatic experience. Anytime you want to do harm to yourself it is a malfunction of the brain, which a lot of people never recover from, in this case caused by isolation. He should have gotten the 25 million, because, through someones negligence, he will never be the same again.
