i have been in a situation where a friend was in trouble 2 guys hit him and i came to help and he ran away and i took alot of hits and kicks alone against 2 guys without any reason :(

so i think that it is a good thing too test friendship i learnt it the hard way but life must go on :)

If you pay off a gambling debt for someone, they'll almost certainly just return to their habit shortly afterwards and continue on as before.

Much better, and the mark of a true friend would be to refuse to provide money, and in doing so allow the gambler to get his head kicked in. This might act as a serious disincentive to further gambling.

Here endeth the first lesson. :|

#11 would you really let your best friend down, when he needs you the most? just to teach him some lessons "the hard way"?

help your friend out. he needs you, not your lessons. and when he is OUT of danger, than sit down with him or maybe think about prof. help.

I know that superficially it sounds wrong, but think about it carefully and you'll see that it might be the only way forward, out of the misery that gambling addiction can cause friends and family. It can be utterly devastating. Remember the old saying: "Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind."

A couple of black eyes, perhaps broken ribs, the odd stab wound here or there or maybe the loss of a limb or two might be worth it in the long run.
