#1 Nah I think that would be a bad thing... as the train would have almost certainly snapped the rails, fallen 20 ft and rolled... injuring or killing many people!!
What this video lacked... was the land underneath this guys feet giving way, and him being saved by the wooden sleepers, and the video of him crawling back to safety. That would have been AWESOME!!
But holy shit... its lucky these guys were there (probably inspecting reports of bending or dipping rails...) as it certainly prevented a disaster!!

To fix that mess I think they need to build a bridge.

This is cause by a culvert failure which caused a water blockage and pressure buildup. Poor engineering.

#3: It happened here in Denmark some years ago. A train ran over a landslide - the driver could not see that the soil was gone (night time). He told that it felt like the train ran over a big log! The train stayed on the track and nobody was seriously injured.
Here is there something about it (Google translated)

Couldn't see if there was a culvert located under the tracks at the site. An elevated track does not make a good dam and its easy for water hydraulics to undermine if it's not drained properly. Conclusion, either it happen due to inadequate maintenance or a civil engineering screw up. Incidentally, this is how most earthen dams fail.
