Australian storm-chasers race away from tornado

Why chase it if you're going to shit your pants when you find it?
Two Australian men made a dramatic escape from a tornado in New South Wales after the
twister touched down only metres from their car.

I think more like storm runners not chasers.... where this happened though they don't get these sorts of things normally, so these chaps would have just run into it without knowing much.

Touched down in front of their car ? They saw it coming a long way ahead; probably impaired enough to realize it was very late to turn around the car.
