Brilliant!

I've always wondered what would be like to take one of those big grid like cities such as new york and turn each intersection into a roundabout. Seems to me like it would make traffic much more fluid.

All it does is make sure that NO ONE has any clue as to who has the right of way. It slows everyone down by creating confusion. Also, if you have to pay attention to where multiple cars are entering and exiting, you're MORE likely to hit someone in the crosswalk. Person who designed this is an ID10T.

Similar idea works "fine" in Sweden. They just removed all the lights. If you want to remove accidents you have to remove bad drivers. It's that simple.

It is definitely a subject that would need to be looked at on a case by case basis. It is nice to see it worked in this location, but it definitely would not work everywhere.

Attitudes would need to change as well. At the end of the video, you see a large group of pedestrians pause half way across the road waiting for a car. The car then stops and allows the people to continue across. I see very little of that kind of mutual courtesy being exercised anywhere I have been.

This system does work, I have experienced it. We are all conditioned to seeing red lights, zebra crossings and lines in the middle of the roads to segregate traffic. When these are removed we slow down and approach with caution, accidents disappear, tension and agression are reduced and trafic flows much smoother.

#5 Did you made a drivers license at all? No one is confused since there are still rules when there is no traffic light. And having no lights makes you more cautioned when entering an intersection..since you dont rely on your right to drive because a light said so..you rely on your common sense and look around because you dont want to get hit. Here they made a big intersection also into a big roundabout..perfect traffic flow..better then before.

Well, #5 is a bit off and most likely got his license in a country where you have to study some random brochure of 3-4 pages in order to get it.

Quick example - in Focsani, small Romanian city, the administration began eliminating the lights from the intersections by building high circles in the middle of the them.

The concept is easy - the first one in the intersection (actually on the rim of the circle) has the right to cross it first and you have enter the circle with a certain maximum speed (I think it's a max of 30 km/h).

The pedestrians have priority and they cross first no matter how many cars there are in the circle.

This comes down to:

- you have to slow down every time you approach such intersection
- the traffic is more fluent than it was before
- because everybody slows down, there are no more accidents
