I was on the Isle of Man once ( a long time ago )...walking along , big rucksack, both hands full....and round the corner comes the BIGGEST damn Irish Wolfhound I have ever seen....it looked at me with those yellow eyes and growled...padded towards me, reared up and slapped his dinner plate sized paws onto my SHOULDERS ( I'm 6 ft 3" )....and I'm thinking " This is it...I'm dead"....then the dammed dog licked me....I nearly wet myself out of sheer relief! They are lovely dogs.... but just a "tad" scary !

They really are gentle giants and likes to be hugged. Not very good guard dogs, they are much too friendly for that.
