#6: Optishock: I agree with you, it's a pity to see them jailed, as they are largely enough intelligent to be hurt by this. Even they are useful for science, we never asked them if they agree to have their life oppressed by some humans.

#6 & #9, Given the rate that the great apes are being wiped out research like this might actually save them. If science can show they experience self-awareness similar to our own it may make it easier to give them special protections.
Many of these apes will have been bred in captivity so they haven't known a different life. I'm not saying it's the best life they could possibly have, only that some real good may come from it.
