'Years' Tree Turntable demonstration. Utilizing various make-shift components, German designer Bartholomäus Traubeck has managed to create a modified record player that takes wood slices of a tree and makes music from its inner rings.

#7: Ok, I had to look up the maker's website (http://traubeck.com/years/) to see how the music was made. So the turntable looks at the treerings (with a camera) and this data serves as input to an algorithm that produces piano music. It's an interesting idea. #4: the harmonics come from the algorithm that made the music, not from the treerings themselves. I doubt that I could distinguish treerings from, say, pond ripples or any other repetative input.
