I think these riot police had a plan of attack.

Very realistic.. it's very usual for the cops to be 10 times more than the protestors

So much for training and theory. Now let's see it in practice, with real opposition.

Several of those maneuvers doesn't look as if they make sense. It would be interesting to know what the plan was.

Also, Space Invaders at 5:35 :D

If I would be a violent rioter, then I would probaly use a sling (large distance, high porjectile energy, low accuracy). Such a simple, but effective weapon. I would stay as far as posible from these guys, yet I fear, they would counter it by using bullets and I would be outforced anyway :D Good vid, I like stuff that reminds me of ancient battle warefare.

In Turkey, we have the exact opposite. Riot police trying to beat/kill people.

Its always easier in training when you outnumber the protesters 3 to 1.

remember if you riot nowadays and in my country, everywhere and everyone has a camera pointed at you. and police will use that against you. just 2 weeks later, you get a letter saying, report at the police station or be picked up.

it is just not much fun as it used to be :(

#12, only because you asked:

Let's start with those flanks moving forward at 0:20 and 0:28 ... they go behind the front line -- why not go around the front and start boxing them in? Perhaps they are pretending (it's a training after all) that the line of protesters is much wider?

At 0:50, all of a sudden everybody wants some personal space -- doesn't seem very likely that things will work that way in reality. The fronts are suddenly filled with holes, so either side count dive into the opposition. But they don't. They just ... stand there and kick at the riot shields; or they just stand there and let their shields get kicked. Weak sauce.

1:17 Why the change in formation? I don't see any trigger in the crowd to cause this.

Let's not go on.

0:20 I think it is to cower the flanks, if someone tries to outflank that formation.
0:50 I think it is differnt type of formation. You can see they can easaly grab some proestors and can beat them up behind the lines. If some one tries to get behind first row they would be beat them up. Well I think this formation is also too loose and has the risk that first rows would be soraounded by huge masses of protesters.

1:17 I call it economy of force. Fresh unit changes the tired one, which goes back and rests. Watch this how the romans did it after whistle signal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLXji8leIGg
