As professionally it is made, it makes no sense why they put the girl at fault here...
Couldn't it have been a situation where she walks through a crossing and the bastard goes 65?
Now the ad simply has the effect of "so what, it wouldn't be my fault" as the driver's point of view

Yes, yes we were all taught that. So maybe the better example would have been a kid running after his ball?
The point really is that you just never know what someone else is going to do, and do you really want your car to seriously injure or kill someone just so you can say "I was right! She should have looked both ways!!"? She's still in the fucking hospital, or dead. Slow down. Wherever you're going will be there after the couple extra minutes it takes you to get there.

It goes both ways: pedestrians are responsible for their own safety and drivers are responsible for the safety of themselves and others around them. With the inventions of portable music players with headphones as well as cell phones and texting, pedestrians have tuned out of the real world and when crossing streets or rail tracks, more and more get hit. I've seen so many instances where someone could have been hurt really bad if it weren't for the quick reflexes of the driver of the car coming at them. A lot of pedestrians also have it drilled in their mind that, "If I get hit, it's always the driver's fault - so why should I care?" Well, you won't be enjoying your mega-insurance claim when you're 6 feet under.
I'm in no way saying that drivers shouldn't responsible. I've seen horrible drivers speeding through lights, texting and driving, basically everything under the sun. Had I not taken the time to check before I crossed the street, I would be dead a hundred times over.
Both sides need to pull up their pants and take responsibility for their actions.
BTW - I used to work in an Emergency and one night a middle-aged man was struck and killed by a car while he was trying to run across the street (dodging cars) when the stoplight was about 100 feet away. The young couple that hit him, by no fault of their own, now have to live with that image for the rest of their lives.

I think that they would like to emphasize here that we would see that he/she is a grown up and wouldn't expect him/her to cross the street without checking the booth sides of the street, so most of the drivers wouldn't expect such a behavior and wouldn't pull back his/her feet from the gas pedal because he/she wouldn't expect such e behavior. If it had been a kid or an animal, then most of us will slow down to be able stop on time, without hitting the living being.

What about 55 km/h ? isn't it safer ? or 45 or why not 20 km/h
Is the problem going to be solved if we go 5 km/h slower ?
Even at 10 km/h there will be people crossing without watching
or idiots going to fast through a crowded area.
Speed is a risk factor, not the problem...

In most of the European cities it is max 50 KM/H in main city streets and 30 KM/H in side streets and residential areas.

Don't you just love public service announcements from countries with Universal Health Care?

#2 Your are right. They should have used a kid that runs after it's ball as an example. Is getting somewhere some minutes earlier worth a life?

I'll give the Victorians one thing - they may be a bunch of inbred snobs, but they do a good safety advert. Now if they'd just get all those fkn trams out of Melbourne...
