#1 Why? It will only run out of gas or the flint will die. He is doing it the correct way, with a flint and steel... a vital survival technique that everyone should know!!

I love watching these videos of a true craft-master displaying his skills...my father in law was ( among other things ) a blacksmith...I used to love watching how he did stuff.

The skill is not to make knife from whatever you find. For proper annealing process, the steel must has proper chemical components. ?specially plenty of carbon.
