It's not about not having enough food, it's about how we consume food and how we distribute it. The current farmland in the world is enough to provide ~3000 calories for each human. The unnecessary abundance of products in the supermarket, our taste for processed fast food and the waste lead to these problems.

They could always stop having so many babies, allow the population to gradually reduce over time to a more manageable level, perhaps clear away some buildings and development for open parks and forests, and natural farming.

Vertical farms and underground shopping malls. They were building those when I was there 12 years ago.

Singapore is one of the most interesting advanced industry places of this time we live in. I'm too scared to go though because everyone (including the police) tells me I look like a stoner and drugs will get you the death penalty over there.
