This is actually the first great idea of bicycling since...well bicycling began.

Great idea and all, but:
1) Smartphone? Are they waterproof? Well no. So that requires attention.
2) Run-aways: The bike's brakes aren't in any way connected to the electrical circuit so that when you apply the brakes, the motor automatically cuts out.
Also, because the system senses you applying peddle-power, it can also get it wrong. A runaway bike which doesn't have a mechanical cut-out connection to the brakes is a huge hazard.
3) Easy to swap, easy to steal.

So, great idea, but those who want to ride an electric bike will probably just buy an electric bike. And with the issues mentioned here you'll need to turn your bike into an electric one. Not very efficient.

#4 Point 2) it claimns to go into a regenerative mode like electric cars do when braking. Adding braking resistance by turning the motor into a generator to recharge the batteries.

Point 3) Easy to steal, but unless they also steal the smart phone, they have succeeded in stealing a brick. 'Smart Locking'

*All* bikes in this commercial are filmed so that the gears can not be seen. Why is that?

#13 Those are the bicycle's private parts. You don't go filling a commercial with that filth.

#12 I was wondering the same thing. But i guess it's not. FlyKly is a company with mostly people from Slovenia (at least something good came out of our country :D) whereas Superpedestrian has none of the team members of FlyKly (and none are from Slovenia... based on their names/surnames).
