Although her arguments are right on the part that the media projects an ideal image of the human body, what is wrong with her argument is that she only speaks of the women. They do the same with the image of men. I think she went to far saying treating "women as objects" applies to women because the same can be implied for men.

@banzemanga, why should she emphasize on that? For as far as I know, women are much more affected by media imaging. It is probably in their nature, they want to look the best they can to attract the best men. However, it is in humans to compare with others, so the picture that media provides is bound to create too high standards. Men, on the other hand, care less. They care only when they feel that they have to look attractive to get a girl. So when the media depicts men as handsome and muscular, the girls start believing that men should be like that. Men sense this and feel that they have to conform.
In my opinion, media is to blame and women should be the focusgroup here. If we can get the media to depict a more realistic view of men and women, women are less affected and as such, men are as well. Women should be the "litmus test" for the way we view men and women.

stupid feminist. the ads are just a symptom of a much larger problem - education. specifically, the lack of it. those kinds of ads can only work because there is large enough audience of idiots for them. start by fixing the education system. make learning fun and interesting. soon enough such abnormalities would disappear also.
smart people are hard to control though... i better stop here

This goes both ways. Women have been in focus for such a long time it's only as of late men are becoming the focus. Men should look like this, men should have a equipment of this size or bigger. Well, you get the point. Very few can actually live up to the expectation these days. Men make jokes about women and women make jokes about men.
It's a vicious circle that just never ends and it will never end because we're human. If it's not gender related it's skin color. There will *always* be something to complain about. Welcome to being a human!

I lost it when she immediately assumed women are objectified by standardization and drew the line to violence and sexism. That's now how you argue, lady.
Can we say Venus of Milo or the Mona Lisa is an unrealistic standard for women that encourages violence against them?!

I agree this is bad, but the other extreme of getting to look like a hippo is also bad...

You can't blame the media, because they are only interested in selling stuff. If women (collectively) were honest enough with themselves to buy a product advertised by a fuller-figured woman, the market for anorexic models would disappear.
It's a perpetual cycle which has gone on for long enough, now, that people feel comfortable with the idea of blaming the advertiser when all the advertiser is doing is trying to appeal to the masses.

And I am from an etirely different place form america and the history and mentality (not only due to our low econoical situations, sociologically looking).
(I'm of course not talking about the bloating retarded attrocities, but of the normal cases, like her)
