#1 so many reasons..
a) because of producers. you can only sell whats different. there are tons of strong singers out there. everyone of them is 300% better then what you get from the charts.
b) because a great musician can also make bad decisions in life
c) because some great musicians have fun to dress low and go out for some extra bucks. you would be amazed how much money one can earn from good street music

#1 Many years ago while in Charing Cross station I came across a perfect example of what #2 is referring to, I was waiting for a train and an old tramp was going among the people hand held out for money, Somebody suggested he should do something to EARN the money (I was standing close by at the time. Well...the old guy nodded slowly and shuffled of a few steps, then a piece of music came over the PA system and he stopped and quite literally blew everybody mind when he started to sing...Opera, absolutely AWESOME...I'm pretty sure a lot of people (including me) missed the train they were waiting for, I don't think more than ten or so people even moved the whole time he was singing. Turns out his wife had run of with another guy taking their two kids with the. He never saw them again...so he hit the bottle. We all dipped into our pockets and raised well over £140.00. A considerable sum back in the early 70's. He was so grateful he just stood there and cried. I never saw or heard from him again, but I'd like to think he took the chance offered, and got himself sorted. Talent like that should never be wasted.

#1 & #2 Warn your friends not to buy mainstream.. They are only worth of downloading in many cases! Support the real talent on the streets.. Some local artists at their gigs and so on.. Don't be an mtv-A*$#¤£€ and hype up the machine!
P.S. If you go to a gig and it's playback.. GET OUT OF THERE! Humble pleace!

Producers sell music, artists sell an image, easy as that.
