#2 The story is too long to leave in a comment. Look at the Wikipedia entry for Jeremiah Denton. He is being interviewed by a Japanese reporter, while held as a prisoner of war by the Vietnamese, on 2May1966. He defied his captor's instructions and verbally supported his own government. He probably used the Tap Code to blink the "torture" message, not Morse Code as is commonly said. There is a Wikipedia entry for Tap Code. #1 If you were in that prison, trust me, you would have learned Tap code. The story I heard is that an American Boy Scout saw the interview on TV and told his parents that Denton was blinking in code.
