Stupid Russians... great idea, but next time you do this, instead of cutting a big square hole with vertical edges... cut one of the edges diagonally creating a slide for the net!!

#4 But cutting the ice like that would make it weaker the closer it is to the hole and cause it to crack and break, also it's not the squared edge on the top of the ice that's the problem, it's catching on the underside more, and this isn't a brand new method for them either, been doing this for quite some time.

#6 OK, another alternative would be to have a tall A-Frame built over the square hole, with a pulley in the center. This would allow lifting the entire net vertically out of the hole, and then pushed aside to land on the ice. You would have thought if they have been doing this for some time, that they would have a more advanced method.

#1 My suspicion is that this actually failed. The net could have easily ripped open and lost their load... I cant see any other reason why the video got cut short, and cant find a full length original!!

#7 There's many other ways they "could have" done this especially with more money and resources, which I don't think these guys have but all I was saying is why the method you suggested wouldn't work well, and this is not a new method, I know of people who've done this and seen it myself, on a smaller scale (smaller net, using a quad or snowmobile to do the pulling, and even one fellow who did have a portable A-frame with a crank like an old fashion well) a lot of ice fisherman do use nets, but many places don't have thick enough ice to hold large vehicles like that, and tbh the main thing that irritated me about your first comment was the "Stupid Russians" part, if you think these people are stupid or even total idiots and want to say so that's ok, just don't make it about their nationality, yes there are indeed stupid Russians just as there are stupid Americans, stupid Canadians, stupid Europeans, stupid Africans, stupid Asians, etc. every country on earth has it's share of fools. Real ice fishing is much, much more then just catching fish. What these guys are doing has as much in common with ice fishing, as having an orgy with a bunch of hookers has in common with spending a night with a woman you love.
