#1 is right: speedometer says what could be 160kph but then drops to 120kph and *then* they overtake -- though admittedly by a lot more than 40kph difference in speed and I guess he saw them approaching in the rear-view mirror and simply gave up.

(Don't flame me for the actual numbers, I'm just guessing based on the angles of the speedometer arrow and mapping that onto my own speedometer. It would be more accurate but less to state arc degrees.)

By my estimate he is only going about 100k (60 mph) and the others are are doing around 125 to 135 k (85-85 mph). Thats cruising speed around Indianapolis.

Some people will see someone like this guy drive by them and think "for F sakes, look at this idiot" others will see it as a challenge.

Everybody knows that the lanes are sorted slow-to-fast right-to-left, otherwise you clip everyone who wants to merge in or take an exit, prevent people to merge back into the slow lane and create chaos all over the place?
