In most countries exposing illegal actions of a bureau would be considered such a service to your homeland, that the penalty for not respecting a secrecy agreement would be minimal.

A real hero. This guy gave up all of his plans for a normal, comfortable life, for doing something important.

While Obama has been using the IRS to harass his political foes for years, he has also been using the NSA to monitor and spy on phone, email and other types of communication in the US and around the world. Ain't he a great and respected leader? (So many of you thought he would be)

What ever the rights or wrongs of this guys actions and you can understand a paranoid country like the USA being a little upset at this exposure. You have to admire the sacrifices this guy is making. The likelihood is that he will never be safe again. He will be watching his back for the remainder of his life. He won't be able to return to the US, unless to spend a life behind bars. Friends, family? he won't get to see them? He also must be very sure of the technical ability of not being traced even doing this Ted interview. I wonder also if Ted based in Canada were under any restrictions as to what they could broadcast of this interview? Now don't get me wrong, if any information leaked was to actually put the security of the country or it's citizens in danger it is wrong, but, if it's exposing a wrong doing to the citizens of the USA or any other related country then good luck to him.
