Honest question: I know puppies are carried by the skin of their necks -- is that also a proper way to handle big dogs? Aren't they too big/heavy for that to be the best solution?

#6 Why don't you ask the dog ? My guess is: if it hurts, the dog would complain louder. Also, not captured in the video is the fact that the water was rising (you can hear a dam there, which is slowly releasing more and more water at regular intervals). There was no water when the dog wandered there and it got trapped when the dam opened. Had the guy waited too long for help and proper handling of the dog, they would have been covered by water. That's why this is remarkable: the guy went into dangerous waters for a stray dog (stray dogs are plentiful and not very loved in Romania - lots of adults & kids are bitten and at least one kid died recently from stray dogs attacks).

#6 It was more for safety for the rescuer. The dog was scared and unknown to him. He carried it that way to make sure it didn't bite him. It didn't hurt the dog. Obviously the dog was very friendly and grateful afterwards but he had no real way of knowing how the dog would act towards him during the rescue.

Anyway, saw this video on another site earlier this week. It was as heartwarming now as it was then.

#(removed comment) From what I can tell this happened in Romania, not the US ( you know, the country you always talk shit about) .
Not every white guy is American and I don 't think Romania has been sending soldiers to your beloved little slice of heaven
you call Pakistan.
Great dog rescue too. That dog looked SO happy.....
