This is how we destroy data at work. Afterwards we take out the platters and use them as coasters

Why not just get a magnet and wipe it properly and not destroy the lovely shiny platter.

Buy a degausser.. Seriously, they are not that expensive..
There's a reason why degaussers exists, it's because "destruction" like this doesn't actually destroy the data..

#9 #12 Who said its still working? Maybe the reader was broken or any other internal parts, so the disc is still spinning but its not working properly anymore and there is nothing left to do then throw it away. I bet you also had hdds that broke, but the disc inside was still spinning. I dont think they broke a perfectly fine hdd for no reason.
