This is how we destroy data at work. Afterwards we take out the platters and use them as coasters

Why not just snap it in two or a single deep score with a screwdriver will make it unreadable

Buy a degausser.. Seriously, they are not that expensive..
There's a reason why degaussers exists, it's because "destruction" like this doesn't actually destroy the data..

Turn it around, draw numbers on it and make it into one of those little shitty clocks. Put it on the wall no one will notice it for years.

#9 #12 Who said its still working? Maybe the reader was broken or any other internal parts, so the disc is still spinning but its not working properly anymore and there is nothing left to do then throw it away. I bet you also had hdds that broke, but the disc inside was still spinning. I dont think they broke a perfectly fine hdd for no reason.
