Always wonder who or what companies all these ads are working for...
Pretty sure I've only clicked on three ads in my entire life - and two of them were accidental.

The only ads that regularly have a distracting effect on me are porn ads, as they immediately make me think: "How long since I last rubbed one out... am I good for a quick session?"
But who are the idiots who then go ahead and actually pull out their credit cards and pay for stuff that is out there for free in virtually infinite amounts?

Presumably the same people who pay to download iTunes music, buy ebooks for their Kindle from Amazon, buy Bluray movies, and send Microsoft money to get the latest Windows o/s... etc. etc. etc. the list is almost endless.

I can't remember the last time I handed over money for any of the above, because it's all very easily available for free. Fortunately for Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, the Movie companies and many others, there are millions of people who are either:

a) Not aware of this.

b) Aware that it's free but are too stupid to figure out how.

c) Know how but can't be bothered.

d) Frightened of getting caught.

#2 I think you forgot the last part of your listing:

e) Wants to support the companies that bring them entertainment and enjoy not being criminals at the same time.

I download all my jazz, too, but I also know a few friends who buy stuff because they genuinely like the company, the artist, etc.

#2 Because you never own stuff you buy digitally to acces online, only the permissions to read or view. If the company get's bankrupted you also loose your right to view the online content. :)

#4. I think you'll find your point (e) is mostly covered by my point (d). After speaking to a number of acquaintances I get the very impression that there is a latent tendency to get stuff for free in many people, but with a large number, the fear of getting caught overrides this.

#5. The business model you refer to stinks. Fortunately it is easily circumvented.
