Hipsters happened, now everything has to be flat and abstract.

Shouldn't this be posted under commercials? Nikon, Fuji, Microsoft (and prob more products that i just ignored). The very end is a dead giveaway, the Dutch windows page on facebook.

You can skip to 8:0 if you're not interested in the story but just the picture.

#2 Or maybe stop nit picking just because you saw the brand of something? Commercial for Microsoft? Not really..we all know that this pic is the MS XP background..no need to advertise since XP is out of support anyways. Commercial for the camera brand? You just see what he used..he didnt claim that these brands are the only brands that can take pictures..its just what he used..no big advertisement. Clear me up..what are they advertising? An OS with no support? Guess if there was a redbull sticker somewhere in the background you would totally freak out =)

Does that post really make it seem to you that i'm freaking out? I think you need chill bud, as it's clearly just a question of mislabeling and explaining why i think so. Chill out and either move it if you want, or don't. Not more complicated than that, no need for painting untruthful pictures of someone you clearly don't know. You should have checked some of my previous comments on other stuff before judging me.

#4 The end is pretty clear about this being a Windows brand ad campaign. Even the voice-over sounds like the narrator of the Windows installation/introduction presentation that you could sit through while your system is being set up ;)

#6 Yes..the video was made by Microsoft NL..but what do they advertise? An OS that is not supported anymore? A wallpaper? Its just the story behind the image. In my book an advertisement should make me want to buy stuff. This just shows some background info how that pic came to be. Sure you can call anything advertisement when just the name is shown..this is an ad for snotr because it got a watermark =) Not everything should be considered an Ad just because the maker or sponsor shows their name. Thats why i refered to redbull too. So many people like the extreme sport videos and then complain about a redbull sticker. Thats pathetic..like what you see in the video, but dont like it because the sponsor of the event put a sticker to a helmet. Did any of the Redbull sports events made you want to buy that overpriced sugar liquid? Did the Last Wish made you want to buy a VW? Dont think so..did this make you want to buy win 8?..dont think so. So why not just enjoy the video and dont care that at the end they show their name?
You would want your name in the credits too if you worked on a project..no matter if you are creator, sponsor, owner..
Dont want to sound like im ranting or anything..i just dont get why people like a video and then dislike it just because at the end it shows the name/brand of the producer/sponsor for a few seconds.

#7 Im wondering too..the kid on the Kinder Choclate..this kid:

Got paid like 10DM..wich is about 5EU..wich is less then 5USD..and his face was used for about 30 years or so..

Could you point out where anyone here in this video has mentioned that this is an advert in a negative way? The discussion is whether or not this should be in another category, not whether we like adverts or not, nor what attitude we have towards it. You make it seem like next time anyone mentions that there is an advert, they are automatically assumed to be "anti redbull" or whatever that issue is that you have a problem with. You seem to assume that people are voting the video up in the beginning, and then downvoting it once they see it's and advert. What effect an ad has on people is irrelevant in context of simply placing a video in a category. Your personal opinion on the OS itself is also totally irrelevant, as well as your personal opinion about people who have certain views about certain brands and ads. So yea, next time someone questions whether a video is in the right category or not, try to look at the very subject they are pointing at, and not your own feelings about people liking or disliking a video out of their own personal preferences.

Come on guys and gals, what a fuss about a video if it is an ad or not. The person who placed it here has considered it as a documentary and tagged it as so. It might be made as an advertisement, but I don't see it that much of an advertisement. Besides wouldn't you watch it if it had been categorized as an advertisement? Just looking at the tittle I would, and I guess most of you would do as I did. ;) So keep it cool here! 8-)

#8 The definition of an ad film campaign is that the commercial copyright holder is also the author of the product that is (one of) the subject(s) of the film.
The copyright holder is Microsoft. The subject is a core recognition factor of one of their Windows operating systems (the product).

Is a Chevrolet brand commercial not considered a commercial if it only shows the history of cars they no longer produce or supply spare parts for? My guess is you would not enforce the same standard there. What you think an ad should do in your book has nothing to do with the technical definition. The creator of a film cannot have a conflict of interest with the actual content of the documentation for it to be a legitimate documentary rather than a documentary-style ad campaign.

It is not at all comparable to Red Bull videos, which are just sponsored by the company - not actually about demonstrating their product. They would not be considered documentaries, but also not ads. Once people get a Red Bull in their hand and start drinking it with great pleasure, it becomes an obvious ad. But people are not riding Red Bull cans down a steep hill and landing in a pool of the actual beverage content.

The category takes nothing away from the quality of the piece - that's not the point. I like the video regardless of the category - because it is well done and interesting. It just is what it is: A good advert that tells the story behind the image we all see in our head when remembering one of their most historic products.
