Take-offs are one thing but what about landings? It must be scary as well because you seldom land at the very beginning of a track... 8-)

it's interesting that the runway is slightly downhill to get some of gravity's help.

Even if you run out of runway the planes can still get lift if there is sufficient fall afterwards, just watch aircraft carrier launches.

#6 Yeah true, aircraft carriers are also equipped with aircraft catapults to help launch the planes, something for this airport to consider if they ever decide to upgrade :P

#11 An Apache Longbow is an Apache Longbow is an Apache Longbow ; so what is the problem?
Folding rotors for ship use is the main difference for the UK models, but it is still an AH-64 made by Boeing,
and a very cool chopper at that.

#4 They have to land at the start of the strip, there is no aborting a landing at Lukla. Behind the airport is a mountain, no place to turn.....
