How could anyone not be impressed with this idea. I guess at the end of the day it's going to come down to the big four letter C Cost silly! I can't see who is going to have the funding to get this going in a major way. I could see it in specialised sections in busy city centres but if their idea is to replace the worlds roads BIG BIG ask and very unlikely :)

I am really sick of this type of ideas ! Not because they are rubbish, but because they are SO COOL AND USEFUL and they ever get practically used, and remain just IDEAS. That's so sad :'(

Indigogo goal 1.000.000$ ...currently 1.526.627$ and 3 more days to go..lets see. It might take ages till its on public roads, since then all old roadways must be removed first and thats an ongoing process wich takes another billion dollars to complete. But i can see that good in driveways for big homes and new houses that will be build. Melting the snow in front of your garage..light it up in the dark and collect energy for the own use to lower energy costs. If i were about to build a house..that would be my driveway.

Another nice addition to that would be piazzo crystall thingies in in electric lighters that generate electricity on pressure..on a road that could be usefull. There is a club somewhere in germany that has the dancefloor replaced with plates that generate power on pressure. In the rushhour of clubbing, the dancing people generate enough power for the ligh in the club. Its just expreimental but worked.

How can anybody seriously believe in such a thing?
This will be a shitload more expensive than a typical road, will take longer to build, is more prone to failure with all the connectors and additional wiring underneath/next to the road.

It just makes no sense to remove all the roads and make them even more expensive than they are already. It is of course more effective to build some solar cells somewhere else. Those cells would have a thin transparent coating thus beeing more effective, and not that semi-transparent rock-solid bulky glas monster in front of the cells.

I'm no expert but just imagine how these things will need to be laid. They will have to be on soft tarmac to get them level, otherwise they will be sticking up all over the place actually causing accidents. The levelling process alone will be a serious issue. Insurance claims will be through the roof. :|
