A lot of the old locomotives and diesels were scrapped, in some cases either no or very few examples are left and in most cases those are unrestorable. To see old diesels like these in that sort of shape is pretty awesome.
Each class of locomotive and diesel tends to use one kind of horn/whistle, some of them were very distinct. So for rail buffs to hear the real thing instead of some iffy old recording on MP3 is pretty cool.
