I think a stick or 2 of dynamite lowerd by rope to appropriate site would have been an easier and cheaper way to accomplish the same thing.

What was the point in washing it down ? Don't they get plenty of rain there?

#1 You can't just "lower down" dynamite, you need to secure it manually and drill holes etc. Just detonating a stick on the outside of the rock would only lead the force outwards in the free air, having very little impact. And it also would defeat the purpose a bit, as the objective is to make as less rocks fall, not more. A blast would increase the chance of more rocks falling down later.

#2 thats exactly it, they don't want the leftovers to be falling at next rainfall, so they do it immediately under controlled circumstances. There is a road under it, so would be bad to have rocks falling randomly at next rainfall.

#1 just as #3 said..its like a firecracker on the street..all power goes into the air..not into the solid.(they dont hang dynamite in front of the rock in mining either) There are a bunch of experts calculating such things..i think they would blow it up if it would be that easy =)"trust me..im an engineer"

I have never seen a heli with a wreckingball attached..that would be a show when demolishing a house..esp when Miley is sitting on that wreckingball (ohh..that was lame)
Also impressive how the boulders fall..looks like they weight nothing..but that are tons that flipping and flying there.
Would love to be there and hear the sound of it..i think "massive" is one word to describe it

#4 Please tell me that "cleveland steamer" is just a pile of steaming excrement in a toilet (!!!!) and not what urban dictionary told me...

Technology and impressive skills of the pilot aside, I think about the rest of my country and mountainsides in the rest of the world that aren't explored well enough, makes me anxious.

#1 and #5: I'm perfectly aware that dynamite is most effective when placed inside the matter of the intended effect. However, lets say I sat down beside a stick of dynamite and it detonated, no effect? I think not, and nor do either you. The boulder/rock was loose and in danger of falling on it's on or it would never have been toppled on purpose in the 1st place. But I'm not emotionally attaced to either method, it was just a thought.

Perhaps other countries should take similar pro-active approaches to avoid situations like this video: http://www.snotr.com/video/11747/Rock_Fall

#10 If you stood next to it, you would die because you are a living organism with soft tissue and many, many weak spots. Your organs are sensitive to pressure and the shockwave alone would rupture your spleen and veins, and so on. A rock doesn't have these problems. Nothing wrong with coming with suggestions and ideas, but be prepared for others having better suggestions and explanations to why certain methods would be preferred. In this case i hardly think the chopper method was a result of 10 minutes of thinking, but rather a long process of trying lots of different methods, including the suggestion of using explosives.
