The only explanation I can come up with as to why anyone would pay so much money for comic book is that they are religious artifacts that people worship.

why do people pay way more for art?

it's a bubble. some people like it or have dear memories attached to it and are willing to pay more than it is worth, let's say a couple hundred dollars. then there is investors who drive it to the next level and buy the stuff for even more, expecting others will pay even more. and so on. till at some point you have ridiculous amounts of money for something that even remotly worth that much. a million dollars for a square feet of a department store in shinjuku, tokyo, a house for a single tulp (the flower) or 2 millions for a comic book. at some point the bubble collapses.
