A really nice watch, but my phone tells perfect time and also does a thousand and one other things that this watch can't do and it costs much, much less.

Nobody and I mean nobody, needs the accuracy in a wrist watch, beyond that of the cheapest digital watch or mobile phone (as mentioned above). This is all about having a gimmick that people who spend in the higher end of jewellery will buy into. you know the one's Plonkers >:)

#2 I agree. This isn't about time or accuracy. My £240/$360 radio-controlled Citizen is accurate to 0.5 seconds per day even if it doesn't pick up a signal overnight. These watches are jewellery and for grown-up boys who enjoy the pleasure of owning something so fantastically intricate.
Me, I couldn't even tell the time on those over-busy watch faces, which rather defeats the purpose... :)

If I had 800k I would never again worry about time at all.

I work in an environment where people usually have a quite high income and you see the "mid-level" Breitlings and Rolex, an occasional IWC or Patek Phillipe at peoples wrists. I never understood why, but I guess it's all about status.

Probably if you reach the level where you can afford such a watch, you have bought everything else you need and whats nice to have too. I even believe people buying those watches don't think about it as showing off, more like: It's pretty and I can afford it.

I'd rather have the pool from the previous video and even that is nothing you need, maybe something which is nice to have, but probably just something to show off.

#7: If you somehow get to a "higher" society you are expected to wear expensive clothes, watch, jewellery, etc. Most people up there are not "normal". I see it with our salespeope - having much much higher income that the rest of the company but forced to buy new suits, watches, fucking big television, washing machines, cars, compact discs players and electric tin openers not to be considered "less successful" ;). I remember a guy having big internal issue with himself being just a director in a big 4 company (earning zillions of $) and not yet partner (earning tens of zillions of $). The issue was not the money (safe for several generations) but rather a social pressure from his schoolmates who were directors already ;). Many people are truly rich and can afford not to give a fuck. Much more, however, are living expensive life, having all that average guy could wish for, but there are mortgages, loans, etc. and many of them end up broke at the end (or crazy ;) ). They say perception is reality but this perception costs a lot, financially as well as psychically.

Anyway, conventional watch business is dead, just the unique luxury goods remains.

High-end watches are a good investment and almost always go way up
in value over time. People with real money seem to always be able
to buy what they want even in a slow economy.
I just sold my Rolex Submariner w/date to a collector who
did not own that model. I had paid $2450.00 back in 1995
and he paid me $3600.00 last week. That is about a 50% increase
over original price. Better than a savings account ! ;)

#11: Well, according to http://www.usinflationcalculator.com/ :
"If in 1995 I purchased an item for $2450 then in 2014 that same item would cost $3830,13. Cumulative rate of inflation: 56,3%". Bad deal, you should have kept it.

If I counted it right the interest rate for your "not so good" savings account for 19 years (2014-1995) would be 2,04%. Nowadays it's almost a win. Some time ago a terrible way how to store money. So bad deal, you should have kept it.

#12 I wore and used the watch for 19 years and still got all
my money back plus about $1150.00.
The point you are missing is that a brand new model
like I sold goes for over $8000.00 now , and some day when
the new price is $15000.00 the one you buy today will fetch
about $12000.00 on the used market. :)
