That had to be traumatic for both crew and witnesses. I am also sure it will get legal and economical consequences. But it's not why I'm writing, to state the obvious. Has anyone link to a news article etc?

When trying to overtake... don't do it in restricted waters with a bloomin container ship!!

People should stop using the 'stabilise video' option in youtube. It makes me dizzy when watching those vids. :'(

Thank you #5 - a rudder failure was also my immediate thought even before they actually collided. No captain would steer a ship like that deliberately, *especially* not ships of this value.

If it's any consolation, both vessels are so huge that everything happens in slo-mo. That means all crew had ample time to get to safety, and nobody got shook up. It was probably just rather loud... the sound of money being wasted.

There is know effect on situations where 2 large ships move side by side, and cause uncontrollable turn on other ship.

This pressure zone is more probable explanation than rudder failure.
