#3 He had the rope around his waste with the intent of pulling it towards him where it would fall as the rope went slack. Instead it fell away and down which hooked the rope over a branch and launched him toward the tree.

#3 Or he was practising for his up and coming part in Batman returns 12, where Batman hits him with the bat mobile and launches him into the air where he crashes into a tree, knocking Robin (who was sitting on eggs in the nest at the top of the tree)off the nest and leaves him dangling a bit. >:)
