Yep. Lasers can literally blind you. That's why a form of it is used for corrective eye surgery.

For all those interested in the ridiculous and various oddities from all over the world: the US has proven its worth once again! That said, this law still cannot compare to the dial-up modem paranoia after War Games, I guess they are slipping... =)
#4 There are already sensible laws in place to cover the use of a laser pointer that way, but this one is certainly not amongst them nor ever will be.

This is not fun and games , it could cause a crash.
One guy in California got 14 years in prison for doing it.
Many of these lasers are much more powerful than the 5mW ones
available in most countries; mine is 200mW and will light a match.
Some idiots actually have been caught lasing planes as they land
or take off from airports.
This demonstrates the effect in the cockpit....

Not to underscore this serious problem but I am under the impression most aircraft land themselves these days. Also seems like they could wear some sort of eyeware as it seems to me you can't fix stupid and it'll be an ongoing problem, possibly forever.
In my state they're too busy letting prisoners out of prison, can't see anyone actually doing any time for this.
#9 great comment!
