This is actually a little silly on behalf of the parents. The retriever is obviously an extremely gentle creature as most are, But! if that baby got it's fingers anywhere near the chewing mechanism of the dog he would likely loose fingers instantly, it wouldn't be the dogs fault and it would be totally accidental but really dangerous all the same. :|

I love dogs. I had the most gentle of dogs, but out of the blue he snapped at one of my kids when they were that age, doing something similiar. Learned a lesson that day...

#7 Unfortunately it takes a lesson to learn. I'm not even going down the 'Might turn nasty route' although that is always a possibility. Sadly so many people get surprised by a dog that would 'never' bite anyone. In the case of this video it's likely to happen totally by accident, the dog is grinding down on a real piece of bone. Anything that comes between the bone and the teeth will be met with the same force, a child's finger would crush like a straw.

Most accidents happen with dogs like this. Everybody knows they are gentile so they let children unattended with them. A child will push the limits of the dog (poking in his eyes or whatever) or doesn't know its pushing that limit.
A friend of a friend had to put his Golden retriever down after he bit a child. the child shot five staples in the dog 'skin. A less mannered dog would have bitten immediately. I have a retriever as well. And I always allow children to play with him but under the conditions that they don't hurt him, don't make him to wild, or irritate him, etc.

In contrast, a rottwailer is often associated with guarding or attacking and looks more threatening so a child (of a certain age, too young and they won't have the association yet) won't appraoch it as fast or parents won't allow it easaly. But of course those dogs can be raised to be nice as well :)
