Why would you want to? As long as it's not too heavy for the structure, snow is a great insulator.

so why not hit straight to the root of the problem and place a thin film of that plastic all over the roof next winter ?

#2 not if the roof gives... And you can't be absolutely certain. Insurance companies in Norway refuse to cover neglicence.

#2 We already have proper insulation in our roofs and walls due to recurring winters every year :). There is no need for "snow insulation". Besides, it would need to cover the whole building, not just the roof.

#4 Not sure where you got the Norway from, but they are speaking Finnish in that video. Soooooo, I would assume they are from Finland. I know that because, you know, I'm from Finland :)
