Whale hunting in Indonesia to survive
For these Indonesian fishermen, a sperm whale can dramatically change their fortunes and feed their families for months. This small-scale whaling, using traditional hand-made boats and harpoons, has been happening for over 600 years and does not threaten whale numbers in these oceans as the fisherman only take around 6 a year.

#4 You don't get it. If they had supermarkets there would be others that will kill whales to survive. I don't condemn their act of whale killing, its obvious they need to feed their selves. If you didn't know I am telling you, the hole supermarket industry every day throws away billions of kilos of food because it expires. There are millions that are starving but we throw away our food because our system is made in a way that is better to make some money then to help those that are in need.

I personally believe it's disrespectful to detach yourself from the reality of humanity's intake of food and simply rely on shelves to be stocked. So many things out of our control could disrupt this. Who here even knows how to make a pizza pop?

#8 And how many here have the knowledge, tools, and ability to go out and gather their own food? If you have a rifle you will most likely not go hungry. Or maybe just a harpoon would do.

That's my point #9, nobody has the knowledge, tools or ability to feed themselves. It's not about having a rifle, I'm talking about the old teach-a-man-to-fish theory.

#10 What do you mean that "nobody has the knowledge, tools or ability to feed themselves"? I do , and so do most everyone I know. How about 'teach a man to hunt' , or "teach a man to farm'? All the info and tools are available everywhere in my country and in many others too.
