The First Cellular Phone
On April 3, 1973, the first cellular phone call was made from the streets of Manhattan to Bell Labs headquarters in New Jersey. Using a prototype of the world's first commercial cell phone, Motorola employee, Martin Cooper, made the call to demonstrate the use of the phone.
The call was a major breakthrough in the industry, but it took over a decade for the cell phone to reach consumers and two decades for the land line usage to be overtaken by cell phone usage, worldwide.
