In my grandparent's village they turn the street lights off at around one o'clock and on a clear moonless night you are left only with the stars, countless, vast constellations, stars of every size and color. Beautiful and humbling.

Light pollution doesn't deserve a positive smiley because it has badly affected many creatures that I consider innocent. We at least can intellectually adjust to the use of all 24 hours. I look at this video more as a view on ourselves than the sky and beyond.

Stunning pictures, but I'm sorry: I don't buy it. Earth's atmosphere will take away a considerable amount of awesomeness.

Sure, this is what you'd see from the International Space Station but I doubt that even if you went into the deepest Sahara, or Australian outback - far from artificial light sources - you'd be able to see the sky quite this clearly.

Still, I don't doubt for a second that light pollution takes away a lot of our night skies. Just not this much.

I remember we used to go to Switzerland into the Alps when I was very small and in the evening we'd sit outside on the balcony, lights out, and watch the starry night, like that. I wished I could experience that again. It was stunning.
