Rubble + Shovel = Cool Knife

Expert craftsman turns garbage into gold...

ohn Heisz is a professional carpenter from Ontario, Canada who has been in the commercial construction business for over 30 years. His YouTube channel, which features videos of woodworking and other workshop projects that he is working on, has over 185,000 subscribers and more than 33 million views.

In this video, Heisz makes a beautiful knife using metal cut from an old shovel for the blade and a handle cut from old concrete rubble. It just goes to show that anything can become a work of art in the hands of a true craftsman. While most of his videos show the various stages of production, it should be noted that Heisz uses YouTube as a means of sharing his work and inspiring others, not as a tutorial. Anyone wishing to replicate his projects should already have a strong working knowledge of the workshop, particularly how to work safely.

I enjoy videos like this, and particularly good to see the guy explaining how he did it.

That should be put in a display case to be admired but never used. It is nice
to look at and would make a great prison knife but
with no blade guard your fingers will get cut when the knife slides
back in your hand when stabbing something. The concrete handle will crack
the first time the knife is dropped on a hard surface.

#2 True...but i doubt that anyone who spend so much time/effort in a knife would use it to stab people or use it for everyday activitys. As you said..its something you put on display and admire. I would call it a little piece of art, put it on display with a lumb of concrete and the remains of the shovel..put some pictures and descriptions in it..and show off in an art gallery =)

Anymore I too feel the videos where someone is crafting something with their own hands are the most enjoyable and satisfying to watch. The finished knife is beautiful and I'm amazed how the colors of the concrete come through on the knife handle.

#3 I did not mean he would be stabbing people...more for cutting into a game animal like a deer or bear, but I like how you think. :D
I am also surprised that he is using that right-angle grinder without a blade guard. If you think it makes easy work of cutting concrete and steel just wait till you see what it does to flesh and bone.

Nice video but I was left feeling that life is too short for all that. especially if it's not even going to get used, take the concrete to the tip, the shovel to recycling and chill man >:)

that was very cool. I wanna have a huge garden and a huge shed with all the tools one day and marry a guy like this so we can do these projects together. that would just be super cool.
