Definitely food for thought, a video worth watching again from time to time.

it is just appalling to me and saddening to see this video getting downvoted. I mean, what exactly could you disagree on here? The guy is right.

These are my thoughts almost exactly, so many people waste their lives worrying about what is going to happen next, religion is actually the killer of life. It's a real shame that people have to label not believing in a God, a creator as a bad thing, it really isn't, it is what sets you free. I've said it before and I'll say it again, life on this wonderful planet is ultimately doomed because of the backward thinking people who kill in the name of religion mainly because they are offended by other people not believing what they believe.
The reality which is indisputable is that human beings share 98% of the same DNA as Chimpanzees, Chimpanzees have more in common with us than they have with Gorillas, that's a scientific fact. 7 million years ago we had a common ancestor and it wasn't a God. We are an evolved species and any supernatural creation is man created. Yesterday the Catholic Church apologised for systemic child abuse they should have also apologised for being part of a nonsense.

I'm puzzled by that too, #3.

#3 & #5: you set me up perfectly for what I wanted to say :-)

First - it may get down voted because not everyone has the same opinion - and in my opinion, that's a wonderful thing, not appaling ;-)

This guy makes a lot of broad, sweeping statements (we see life as eternal... Well I for one certainly don't!) and his cursory stroll through deep and complex philosophies is elementary. It is in essence a summary of his (young) perspective - and naturally some people (like me) would disagree; his statements don't summarize my view at all.

I have managed and been lucky enough to live a life the way I want to every day, and I love it. I made tough choices, worked really hard, and accept the compromises and services I have to provide to support the beautiful collective organism of humanity.

This video reminds me why, after a few philosophy classes, I decided to never study it academically. I love that he's thinking about things and making ores think about things though, a noble way to spend your time...which is running out! ;)

Non-religious and atheist groups make up about 12% of the world's population , which means 88% of the world's population does believe in God or a god-like figure or creator. The views expressed in this video are the opposite of mine so I give it a neg vote.I will never believe in the theory that humans evolved up from single cell organisms that crawled out of the sea unless there was Divine help and guidance. Christians make-up about 31% of the world's population and I am happy to be a part of that. What have I got to lose? How about you.....

#7 and yet the ones who see this world as his greatest creation have no problem destroying it and allowing it to be destroyed, even you who believe that this world was created by god, don't care about pollution and other human related activities that destroy the life and environment ( e.g. his creations ) :)

as far as i'm concerned, the ones who don't believe in god ( any god ) simply have nothing to die for, that is the only difference :)

and here is a :squirrel:
"Matthew 6:24
no man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. ye cannot serve god and mammon."

I agree with the video and #4 and #8, but still up-voted comments that I don't agree with, which may seem weird, but I sometimes do because, even though I disagree with the view, the person still made an important point in a discussion and I respect and support that.

#8 "and yet the ones who see this world as his greatest creation have no problem destroying it and allowing it to be destroyed, even you who believe that this world was created by god, don't care about pollution and other human related activities that destroy the life and environment ( e.g. his creations ) "

How in the world did you come up with such a sweeping and false statement? It is only religious people who are trashing the planet? That is pretty far-fetched and a lie. Human related activities that destroy life includes abortion and that is not very Christian. China is the world's largest polluter and the Chicom government is not exactly Christian.
I am not offended if someone does not believe the same as me,but it seems to drive atheists nuts that there are so many followers of one religion or another. Now the wackos who believe in cutting heads off I do have a problem with.

I have also seen more religious people being environmentally destructive than non-religious people #10. Could be that sometimes religious people are also more conservative and many of them, I work with some and even have one or two in my own close family, believe we can handle the environment any which way we want and God will take care of the rest, in other words, we don't have to take responsibility for the environment because if we leave it to God's will it will turn out fine. That is truly a view I have observed a lot, and that may be what #8 is referring to.

#11 Yea ok all your "religious" friends , co-workers and family are all polluters, but I have not seen that trend anywhere else in this country. Christians care about God's green earth just as much as any other group and they make-up about 71% of the population. No one wants polluted air or water and the US is one of the cleanest large industrial countries on the planet.

#10 i'm not taking one of your statements out of the context but all things you said in our conversations :)
i have no problem with religious people, i also respect religions other than my own ( i also respect your opinion even i don't agree with you ), what i'm talking about in my comment is "selective religion", bible is not orvels "animal farm" you know, ( "some animals are more equal then others" ), so what i will always say when you mention christianity is:
live by the words of your religion founder and his disciples and don't be a hypocrite
:squirrel:
"why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?"

"china is the world's largest polluter"
one of the largest actually, america is second, and as far as i remember neither give a rats anus about reducing the pollution, so why are you even mentioning china? :)

"wackos who believe in cutting heads off"
aren't you the one who believe that torturing people ( aka, terrorists, aka "suspected terrorists" aka "political prisoners" as jeb bush would like to extend it ) is perfectly fine?
or you believe that what is happening in guantanamo is not torture? :)

what would jesus say? :)

#13, I did not say all religious people, nor did I say everyone in my family or work are polluters, I said many and one or two in my own family. When you mention the wackos cutting off heads I assume you are referring to people of the islamic faith. The ones believing in cutting off heads are only a very small extreme group, it cannot be generalized that to the whole islamic faith. That would be very unfair. You have extremists in all religions. That does not truly represent that particular religion. Agree with #14.

#14 The interrogations that have taken place at Gitmo and other terrorist holding facilities have not been done with the interrogators shouting "In the name of God" while they are proceeding with the questioning. No heads are slowly sawed-off and put on display. It is not being done in the name of God , unlike what we have all seen on the videos from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. You might notice that "Islamic" is the first word in their title?
I mention China because they burn as much coal as the rest of the world combined and they don't burn it cleanly using particulate filters and smokestack scrubbers like the US and most European countries. Coal burning in China produces heavy metal pollution and produces particulate pollution on a scale that is getting quite serious and dangerous to the population there.

#19 The reason if you are correct that 88% of the population believe in Gods and I personally don't believe in statistics by the way (and it's not the same) has many reasons. A large percentage of those people have no choice other than to believe what they are told to believe due to the closed society they are brought up in. Think of this:- If the whole world woke up tomorrow, free from any previous knowledge of any religion, would they believe what they believe today in 2015? I think not!
I cannot understand how any educated person in the modern world can believe that their are Gods, the whole thing might have been plausible a few thousand years ago but today? come on it's ridiculous. There is absolutely zero evidence of any external presence or need for one. People pray for miracles, NOTHING HAPPENS!! When did you last hear of a tsunami stopped in it's tracks and returned to whence it came rather than wipe out thousand of lives of women children & men. NEVER!! When did a God stop a member of ISIS from beheading one of it's captors NEVER!! and did people pray, you bet they did. So we have to conclude that God either doesn't care, doesn't have the power to stop bad things happening or doesn't exist (Christians will of course say "oh he/she obviously had a greater need for these poor people in heaven", really!)

#19 you should relax and take things less as an attack ( on christianity,or america, or you personally ) and more like exchanging opinions, i mean really, we would have a lot less flame wars ( this applies to most of us ) :)

for once i didn't mentioned christians when we started, "and yet the ones who see this world as his greatest creation have no problem destroying it and allowing it to be destroyed" all religions ( as far as i know ) see the world as his greatest creation, while your comment #7 was clearly "proud to be christian", which is far from being wrong, as long as you don't rub our faces with it :)

in many comments you where against any reduction in carbon emission ( global warming discussions ) forgetting that carbon emission is as green house gas partially responsible for global warming ( in which you don't believe ), but for other types of pollution to ( that are also damaging for environment ), thus "log in your eye..."

many politicians claiming to be "proud christians" or "proud whatever" also don't see anything wrong in destroying environment, so in global, my comment was simply pointing out the fact that many who are claiming to serve one god ( no matter how you call it ) are actually serving mammon :)

as for guantanamo, it's your opinion but i simply don't see any way to fit christianity, especially being "proud christian" ("you have heard that it was said, 'you shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. but I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you..." ) in the same box with saying that torture is ok ( and let's face it, it is a torture ), no matter in which name is done and who is doing it

hope i've explained myself more clearly and without disrespecting your views :)
