#1 Correct! The reason this Pug is snoring is simply due to it being seriously overweight, very common in pugs, bulldogs & other breeds bred with a short or no snout. There is no need for this to be a major problem if owners would just stick to a controlled diet, but they often don't. Don't get me wrong it is also bad breeding but once bred, great care needs to be taken to keep the dog healthy. The treats industry is largely to blame along with the owners. How many dog owners on here give their dog treats? why! they don't need them, give them their own regular meals, nothing else (and not too much either) and you will spend less time at the vets and have healthier dogs that live longer. :)

#3 Treats are important part of the training (some people believe), especially for pugs - they love treats and food in general, and they are not the easiest breed to train. So treats might help in training. The more treats they get the smaller regular food they should get (provided the nutrition balance). Most of the pugs I know snore even they are not overweight. Anyway, it's definitely important to know the right weight of your pug (anywhere from 6kg to 10kg based on the size), check it from time to time and adjust the portion size accordingly.

I really agree with you #3 on that, treats are so unnecessary and unhealthy, and if you look at the owners that give their dogs a lot of treats often you can tell they give themselves a lot of treats too. I have honestly never bought my dogs treats, except sometimes a raw bone for them to chew on outside. One of my dogs was 15 when she died, I have one left who is 13 now. I never give him table food either. His weight is right on target, 40lbs for a medium size dog. Besides, many of those treats are made in China, and you aways hear about recalls because dogs have died from them.

#4 actually I have a friend who is a dog therapist and he trains dogs completely without treats, most dogs can be trained with correction on a leash and then affection when they are calm. It's pretty amazing and I didn't know that either. Cesar Milan's methods are very effective.

I guess it's a question of what do you call a treat. If you feed your dog small bite mix for example and you feel your dog needs treats to learn anything (I don't actually) (#5 :)) simply take a small quantity of the dogs daily diet of the mix and use that as treats. All these crappy chews, gravy bones & fancy packets of crap are unnecessary, ruin their teeth and put on weight. It's a classic example of killing with kindness. If you must be unhealthy take the money you will save by not buying the treats and buy cigarette's, just don't smoke them while the dog is in the room. <3

It is no secret what a buttie is...it is UK slang for a sandwich. I just don't understand why he thinks I am a sandwich unless he is hungry and thinks I would be a tasty snack. ( I shudder at the thought, being pecked to death ) >:)

Well, if you are a sandwich #10, and #8 is "on a roll", as he often is, then we have quite a lunch buffet here... >:) >:) >:)
